Our first pilot test deployed 2x “Tradewind IoT windlogger” prototypes to record wind speed, wind direction, barometric pressure, relative humidity and ambient temperature for 13 hours over 2 consecutive days during summer. The successful test confirmed a high correlation to nearby official station windspeed readings, with a significant uplift in temporal resolution at the windfarm site.
Site windspeed was sampled every 10 seconds and shows a lagged positive correlation with power generation at the adjacent wind farm. Further work is required to correct for vertical wind shear, spatial variations in surface roughness & topography and changes in prevailing wind direction to extrapolate our predictions to generator hub height.
